Often, local business is hobbled with the pejorative of “Mom & Pop,” as if their size and local connections are a bad thing. Surely, there are many businesses that will only occur on a large scale; jet aircraft engines come to mind. But for other industries, small and local may mean nimble, smart and profitable.
