The end of the freemium business model

I am likely the most conservative of the people who call themselves “futurist.” I don’t believe in the wisdom of crowds, I think the Singularity is horsepucky, and I am extremely suspicious of this thing called the “freemium” business model where people use a service that costs time and money, but somehow profit comes out of it.

This guy Tyler Nichols has a brief, powerful story about how he tried Freemium in earnest, and now he’s done – because it attracts the wrong kind of customer.

He sounds like my Dad talking about the customers who want service on their $29 string trimmers they bought at the convenience store.

I love curmudgeonly stuff.
